Space Deer - No. 23: Needly Cacti
I believe this is the second appearance of a cactus.
So far. I think I might have a few more cactus related ideas brewing. It's not like I'm trying to have a bunch of cactus strips, I just happen to have ideas about them. Maybe it's partially influenced by Peanuts? There were some nice cactuses in there. Although I had cactus ideas even before I read Peanuts (I first read it for real last year).
Speaking of! I got to see originals of both Peanuts and Calvin & Hobbes at the Pompidou museum in Paris yesterday.
I always thought I’d have to fly over to the US to get a chance to see originals of these comics. Feeling very lucky and inspired!
Oooh, I love these! I believe Watterson made that comic in the period he was fighting the syndicate over merchandising rights, and this was his way of putting some of his frustration on paper.
Nice revisit with the cactus — I think we’ve all been in that position at times.

I’ve recently learned that Columbia University in the US has been acquiring a whole lot of original comic book art and that you can take classes in it there. One of my favorites, Rick Veitch, just had his own original art acquired by them. Good thing that someone is taking the medium seriously.
